Oscar Shortlists Announced

Just in time for the holidays, the Academy has revealed the coveted Oscar shortlists for 10 categories, including International Feature Film, Documentary, and various crafts and shorts. While excitement mounts for the March 10th ceremony, it’s worth noting that no Indian films made the cut this year.

Frontrunners like “Barbie,” “Poor Things,” “Maestro,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” secured nominations in various categories. “Barbie” leads the pack with five nods, while “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Color Purple” nabbed four each.

For Best International Feature Film, anticipated titles like “Fallen Leaves,” “Perfect Days,” and “The Zone of Interest” made the shortlist. Interestingly, Ukrainian documentary “20 Days in Mariupol” and Tunisian drama “Four Daughters” pulled double duty, appearing in both International Feature and Documentary Feature categories.

Musically, the viral “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie” made the Best Original Song shortlist, joining other tracks from the film by Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. Documentary buffs have plenty to look forward to with star-studded titles like “Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie” and “American Symphony” vying for recognition.

While the absence of Indian films is noticeable, the shortlists offer a diverse and exciting glimpse into the films contending for Oscar glory. With anticipation building, January will see the official nominations announced, followed by final voting and the highly-awaited ceremony in March.

So, who will take home the golden statuettes? Stay tuned to find out!

P.S. Don’t forget, while no Indian films made the shortlists this year, there’s always hope for the future! Indian cinema continues to produce compelling and thought-provoking stories, and hopefully, we’ll see them represented on the Oscar stage soon.
